Stem Cell Therapy for Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal Cord Injury Stem Cell Treatment

Stem cells may aid in regenerating damaged nerve tissues and restoring motor function.

Stem Cell Therapy for Spinal Injury

Stem cell therapy is being explored as a potential treatment for spinal cord injury (SCI),  a devastating neurological condition that results in a permanent loss of movement and sensation for millions globally. This injury can severely impact every aspect of a person's life, including their social and personal well-being. Over the past two decades, the research community has increasingly acknowledged the potential of stem cell therapy as a promising approach for treating SCI.

SPINAL CORD INJURY

Stem cell therapy has emerged as a highly promising treatment option for spinal cord injury (SCI), with around 500,000 new cases reported globally each year. These injuries are most often caused by trauma from car accidents, falls, gunshot wounds, or complications from medical procedures.

While SCI predominantly affects younger individuals due to the nature of these traumatic events, the increasing age of the global population has led to a rise in SCI cases among older adults, often resulting from low-impact trauma.

Currently, standard clinical treatment for SCI includes early surgical decompression and stabilization of the spine, followed by the use of medications like methylprednisolone, nimodipine, and naloxone to manage inflammation and support recovery. After the acute phase, patients typically enter rehabilitation programs aimed at restoring function and independence.

Despite these interventions, traditional treatments have shown limited success in achieving neuroprotection, neuroregeneration, or meaningful functional recovery. This is largely due to the complex pathophysiological mechanisms of SCI, which cause extensive, often irreversible damage to the neurons and surrounding tissue at the injury site.

In the early 2000s, human trials of stem cell therapy for SCI began, showing promising results and offering new hope for improved outcomes in SCI patients.

ODIN Spinal Cord Injury Procedure

ODIN STEM CELLS utilizes mesenchymal stem cells derived from the tissue of full-term human umbilical cords, ethically sourced and without the use of embryonic cells. In our treatments, we administer over 300 million cells, each rigorously tested for viability to ensure their effectiveness. Since these cells are derived from cord tissue rather than blood, they are extremely safe and do not require HLA or phenotypic matching, minimizing the risk of immune rejection.

How Stem cellS work

Stem cells are basic cells that can turn into different types of cells when needed by the body. They can either multiply or change into specific cell types, making them useful for many purposes.

Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Therapy

Umbilical cord stem cell therapy is gaining attention for its potential to treat a wide range of medical conditions. This approach is showing promise in regenerative medicine and is being explored for various uses, offering hope for innovative treatments and improved outcomes.
